Why Raw?

Comics are meant to be read. The artwork is meant to be enjoyed — not sealed in a plastic vault that never gets cracked open. We specialize in raw comics because we believe a comic should be a sensory experience, one that can only be felt in your hands. Most of us spend years eager to experience the sensational art of Jack Kirby, Will Eisner, Frank Miller, Neal Adams, and so many others. It makes no sense to us to collect that art — and never get to enjoy the visual feast it offers. We scour the back-issue bins and websites so that we can read the words of Alan Moore's Watchmen, Frank Miller's Daredevil run, Chris Claremont's X-Men, and so many more. Just looking at a cover isn't the same as reading the original storylines. We're a family-run business based in the San Francisco Bay Area, and for almost fifty years now we've been buying, selling, and collecting comics because we love this art form — not because we love hard plastic cases. We keep our overhead low, which lets us sell below market value and put great books into the hands of fellow collectors at a price that still makes sense in a hobby that keeps getting more expensive every year. If we make a little and someone walks away with a great deal, that's a win-win for us. Almost everything we carry is raw — but we do get slabs in on trade from time to time, and we sell those below retail too.
